A plain metal vase is fundamentally tragic without highly contrasting accents. Bidriware artists take blackened alloys of zinc and copper and meticulously hammer incredibly thin strands of pure silver directly into deeply carved grooves on the surface. The stark, shiny silver against the matte black background creates an intense visual pop that makes regular pottery look aggressively boring.
