Frederik Ruysch didn't just preserve corpses; he turned them into macabre art pieces using a secret chemical cocktail. By injecting a hardened red wax mixture into the vascular system, he managed to preserve organs and fetal specimens down to the tiniest capillaries, keeping them looking terrifyingly fresh. But he didn't stop at medical preservation. Ruysch arranged these perfectly rosy, preserved tissues into surreal dioramas, like infant limbs crying into lace handkerchiefs. It was groundbreaking vascular injection masquerading as the creepiest home decor in 17th-century Europe.
