Voice actress Maggie Roswell, who played the beloved character Maude Flanders on The Simpsons, was unceremoniously written out of the show and killed off with a t-shirt cannon in 2000 because of a petty dispute over airfare. Roswell lived in Denver and had to fly to Los Angeles for recording sessions, but Fox executives flat-out refused her request for a modest pay bump to cover the rising cost of her commute. Instead of just paying a talented actress a fair working wage for their incredibly profitable global franchise, the notoriously cheap studio decided it was easier to brutally murder a beloved cartoon mother in front of a stadium full of animated people. It is a delightfully cynical example of Hollywood mathematics, where a multi-billion dollar corporation would rather stage a fictional homicide than reimburse an employee for a domestic flight
