A closer look
The BBC literally pulled the plug on their television service mid-broadcast in 1939 because they realized a giant VHF transmitter acting as a homing beacon for German bombers was a bad idea. They were broadcasting a Mickey Mouse cartoon at the time. When the war finally ended seven years later, the BBC rebooted their service by shamelessly continuing the exact same cartoon right where it left off, acting like the most devastating conflict in human history was just a mild commercial break.
