When the ground violently shook in the Andes, the Incas assumed the deities were throwing a subterranean tantrum due to dehydration. Their immediate spiritual solution was to rush out and pour massive jugs of water and fermented beer directly into the cracks of the earth, hoping to quickly hydrate the gods before the tremors destroyed the city.
