Dolley Madison saved Washington's portrait under fire

Talk about grace under literal fire. In 1814, British troops marched into Washington D.C., intent on burning the White House to ashes. While her husband, the President, was out failing to manage the military, Dolley stayed behind until the absolute last second to ensure a massive, iconic portrait of Washington was ripped from its frame and safely smuggled away in a wagon.
