The Icelandic Althing is widely recognized as the oldest continuously functioning parliament in the world, founded in 930. Long before marble buildings and grand chambers, politicians just met outside in a valley and yelled at each other from a specific rocky outcrop called the 'Law Rock'. Any free man could attend, making it a very loud, cold democratic process.
