A closer look

Black holes do not actually suck things in like a cosmic vacuum cleaner, but rather they just exert an incredibly strong gravitational pull identical to any other object of similar mass. If our sun were suddenly replaced by a black hole of the exact same mass, Earth would not get sucked in at all, we would simply continue orbiting it exactly as we do now, just in absolute freezing darkness. The idea of aggressive, hungry black holes hunting down planets is pure Hollywood nonsense meant to sell movie tickets to people who failed high school physics. They are incredibly lazy celestial phenomena that only destroy things dumb enough to wander directly across their event horizon. In a way, black holes are the ultimate introverts of the universe, quietly sitting in the dark and violently obliterating anyone who completely ignores their personal boundaries
