A closer look
If you were attacked by a dog as a kid, your brain permanently wired canine barks to sheer panic. This is classical fear conditioning, famously demonstrated when John Watson terrorized a baby named Little Albert. Overcoming this isn't about simply "forgetting" the fear. Fear extinction requires grueling exposure therapy that forces the brain to build entirely new, stronger neurological bridges that actively suppress the old panic circuits.
