Danny DeVito endured a surprisingly terrifying on-set ordeal during the filming of Batman Returns when a live monkey trained to deliver a letter to the Penguin suddenly panicked and violently attacked him directly in the crotch. The poor creature was apparently terrified by DeVito's heavy grotesque makeup and panicked, opting for a tactical strike against the most vulnerable part of the actor's anatomy while cameras were still ready to roll. DeVito calmly walked away from the incident without breaking character too badly, though it certainly proves that working with wild animals in tight rubber suits is a workplace hazard that absolutely no amount of Hollywood hazard pay can adequately compensate
