Despite what Ferris Bueller’s Day Off meticulously taught an entire generation of teenagers, you cannot commit mileage fraud by putting the car in reverse. While mechanical odometers in the 1980s could technically be rolled backwards with enough reckless determination, modern cars rely on electronic speed sensors that merely count wheel rotations. The computer literally does not care which direction you are traveling. If you drive a mile backward, it gleefully adds a mile to your dash, leaving you nauseous and still over your lease limit.
