Britain once considered a nuclear-powered hovercraft
During the Cold War, someone in Britain clearly had too much funding and suggested building a 1,000-ton hovercraft powered by a nuclear reactor. The idea was to glide over the Atlantic at 100 knots, ignoring silly things like 'waves' and 'basic safety'. Fortunately, the government realized a floating radioactive fan-boat was a terrible idea, and scrapped it.
