A closer look
The greatest global conflict of the 20th century was essentially kicked off because a driver couldn't use reverse properly. The original assassination attempt on the Archduke failed miserably when a bomb bounced off his car. Dejected, the assassin Gavrilo Princip went to a nearby deli to eat a sandwich and rethink his life. By sheer cosmic chance, the Archduke's driver took a wrong turn, stalled the car while trying to back up, and parked directly in front of the sandwich shop. Princip stepped out and fired.
