A closer look
Nothing diffuses tense international diplomacy quite like getting randomly assaulted by the Emperor of Germany. Wilhelm II was infamously immature and loved to slap his royal cousins (like the King of England and Tsar of Russia) on their rear ends. During a yacht trip, he slapped a respected Bulgarian monarch so hard that the man packed his bags and immediately left the country in outrage. Wilhelm's inability to read a room was arguably a contributing factor to the sheer hostility of World War I.
