Archaeopteryx had fully developed flight feathers and a tail

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

The transition from grounded beast to flying marvel was apparently incredibly awkward. Archaeopteryx boasted perfectly modern, completely functional flight feathers, but was still dragging around a long, heavy, bony tail. It was the biological equivalent of attaching jet engines to a wheelbarrow, making for an incredibly clumsy early attempt at aviation.
