If an identical sound entirely hits your left ear literally just milliseconds before the right ear, your internal processing utterly ignores the delay. Instead, it completely hallucinates that the sound came explicitly from the left side. Audio engineers intensely abuse this tiny delay to build incredibly fake, ultra-wide stereo soundscapes.
