When the Andijan meteorite decided to aggressively introduce itself to Earth in 1901, it assaulted the eardrums of an entire region. As the space rock hit the atmosphere at hypersonic speeds, the atmospheric compression created massive sonic booms. But the real scientific weirdness was the 'electrophonic sounds'—hissing heard by locals before the main shockwave hit. The bolide's plasma trail generated very low-frequency radio waves that somehow transduced into sound near the observers.
