A closer look
Who needs narrative consistency when you have a prehistoric apex predator? The original 1996 Tomb Raider is ostensibly a game about an archaeologist exploring ancient human ruins, solving puzzles, and fighting wolves. Suddenly, in the Lost Valley level, a massive Tyrannosaurus Rex charges at you out of nowhere. There is no deep lore reason for this. The development team literally just thought adding a T-Rex would be rad, prioritizing pure, unadulterated shock value over any logical geographical continuity.
