The worst cup of coffee in history aggressively created a multi-million dollar industry. In the early 1900s, a massive shipment of coffee beans was entirely soaked in ocean seawater during a violently turbulent storm. Instead of throwing them away, a German merchant washed the beans with brutal chemical solvents to remove the salt and miraculously realized the caffeine had aggressively vanished while the flavor remained mostly intact.
