Yelling out a famous explorer's name in a chlorinated pool is a primitive form of biological sonar. The blindfolded swimmer sends out a vocal ping and uses the tiny time delay of the screaming responses to map out their surroundings. You are basically cosplaying as a highly aggressive dolphin, thrashing around the shallow end trying to grab your retreating cousin.
