Vampire bats have incredibly fast metabolisms and will starve to death if they go more than two nights without a meal of blood, leading them to develop a highly complex reciprocal altruism system where successful foragers will actually regurgitate coagulated blood directly into the mouths of their starving roost-mates; they even remember who was stingy in the past and will refuse to share with bats who previously denied them, displaying a level of community care, social accountability, and wealth redistribution that puts modern human economic systems to shame, even if it does involve aggressively vomiting liquid iron into your neighbor's face to keep them alive
