Amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins proposed the concept of ley lines in the nineteen twenties, suggesting that ancient monuments across Britain were intentionally built along straight mystical energy tracks that crisscross the globe. Watkins originally just noticed that some old roads and ruins happened to line up on a map, but New Age authors later hijacked the idea and claimed these invisible lines were bursting with raw spiritual power used by aliens. Mathematicians have repeatedly proven that if you put enough random dots on any map, you can draw straight lines through them simply due to the laws of probability.
