Proving once again that natural absolutely does not mean safe. Asbestos isn't some sinister synthetic laboratory creation; it is a naturally occurring silicate mineral that bafflingly crystallizes into soft, highly flexible, heat-resistant threads. It looks like dirty geological cotton candy, and we enthusiastically packed it into our walls before realizing it was highly lethal.
