In 1957, two engineers sealed two shower curtains together to trap air bubbles, genuinely believing they had created the next big avant-garde wallpaper craze. Unsurprisingly, nobody wanted their houses to look like a giant plastic blister. The company teetered on bankruptcy until they realized their terrible interior design choice was actually a miraculous packaging material, successfully pitching it to IBM to ship delicate computers.
