Linear movement is incredibly boring, so engineers decided to bend metal tracks into a curve. Spiral escalators are mathematical nightmares that pull passengers up in a sweeping, circular motion. They look like they belong in a futuristic carnival, mostly because building a constantly moving, curving staircase is wildly unnecessary and deeply showy.
