Halo's iconic M12 Warthog vehicle was originally conceptualized as a civilian off-road vehicle for a completely different game about exploring a ringworld before Microsoft bought Bungie. When the studio pivoted the project into a first-person shooter, they just slapped a massive chain gun on the back of their digital dune buggy and painted it military green. The vehicle is notoriously difficult to drive, possessing a bouncy physics engine that makes it flip over if it hits a pebble at the wrong angle, which is probably why the Covenant lost the war. You have to respect a military organization that looked at a wildly unstable recreational jeep, bolted a rotary cannon to the trunk, and decided it was the pinnacle of human engineering
