Fritz Zwicky was a visionary genius and a world-class misanthrope. In the 1930s, he noticed galaxies in the Coma Cluster were moving way too fast for the visible mass present, famously coining the term 'dark matter.' The astronomical community completely ignored him for decades. Maybe it was because he was aggressively combative, famously referring to his colleagues as 'spherical bastards'—meaning they were bastards no matter which direction you looked at them from. He also championed 'tired light,' proving even a broken clock is angry twice a day.
