Poachers risk their lives and face massive prison sentences just to steal what is essentially an unwashed dreadlock. Rhinoceros horns contain zero actual bone; they are built completely out of densely packed keratin, the exact same protein that forms your fingernails and hair. People are paying thousands of dollars on the black market for an aggressively styled fingernail clipping.
