The medieval equivalent of banning overpowered weapons in a video game server. In 1139, the Second Lateran Council declared the crossbow to be so deadly and unchristian that they strictly banned its use—but only against other Christians. It was considered totally fine to use against heathens. Unsurprisingly, basically every European monarch completely ignored the pope and kept shooting each other with them anyway.
