It’s easy to be confident in battle when you think you’ve already died in a dozen of them. The famously tough American WWII general was an incredibly staunch believer in reincarnation. He wrote poetry detailing his past lives as a Greek hoplite fighting Persians, a Roman legionnaire, and a cavalryman in Napoleon's army. He essentially viewed World War II as just the latest season of his personal combat show.
