In 1987, a person wearing a Max Headroom mask hijacked two public television broadcast signals in Chicago, spanking himself with a flyswatter on live TV. Despite an exhaustive FBI investigation, the culprits were never caught. The archive of this event proves how fragile analog transmission was; the hackers simply overpowered the studio's microwave transmission links to the local antenna by transmitting a stronger signal from a nearby rooftop dish, requiring no actual computer hacking.
