A closer look
Forget anonymous confession pages; the residents of Andrista in the Italian Alps use a furry cryptid to air their dirty laundry. Every year, villagers 'capture' the Badalisc—a bizarre, mythical creature represented by a local in a weird, hairy costume with a massive mouth. The beast is marched into town, where it proceeds to read a rhyming speech that roasts the absolute hell out of the villagers, spilling their real-life secrets, affairs, and petty drama from the past year. It's an incredibly elaborate and festive way to institutionalize communal passive-aggression while blaming all the interpersonal chaos on an imaginary forest monster.
