Dense jungles are usually assumed to be impassable wilderness, but early explorers discovered massive geometric earthworks and meticulously planned avenues hiding beneath the canopy. Indigenous urban planners connected massive, sprawling plaza settlements with wide, perfectly straight avenues cut directly through the dense vegetation. They basically bulldozed the rainforest to build suburbs thousands of years ago.
