Ancient Egyptians pampered man-eating crocodiles
Sobek, the crocodile god, demanded respect, so priests kept literal man-eaters lounging in holy water. These sacred reptiles were adorned with golden jewelry, hand-fed prime cuts of meat, and worshipped daily. It was a great gig for the crocodile, right up until it died and was immediately aggressively mummified.
