Napoleon was actually an entirely respectable 5 foot 6 inches, which was the average height for a Frenchman at the time. The iconic 'short king' myth was purely the result of highly successful British propaganda cartoons mocking him, compounded by the fact that he constantly surrounded himself with towering, elite Imperial Guards who made him look comparatively tiny in every painting.
