You’d think moving a skyscraper-sized vessel carrying 20,000 shipping containers would require a small army. In reality, the hyper-automated mega-ships of today are practically ghost towns. A modern cargo ship requires only 20 to 25 crew members to operate. Most of them are just performing maintenance or checking dials, praying the autopilot doesn't inexplicably drift them into the banks of the Suez Canal to destroy global commerce.
