Imagine being so confident in your math that you invent a whole ghost planet to fix your errors. In the 19th century, astronomers noticed Mercury's orbit was slightly off. Instead of questioning their models, they simply decided there had to be an invisible planet called Vulcan pulling on it. Experts spent decades frantically staring at the sun trying to find a world that literally never existed, until Einstein's theory of relativity finally explained the orbital quirk and put Vulcan in the grave.
