How Dungeons & Dragons brought XP to games

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Every time you level up in a video game, you owe a debt to a bunch of nerds from the 1970s. Before D&D, games were strictly about winning or losing. Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax introduced the radical concept of persistent character growth, where doing tasks earned you 'XP' to make you mathematically stronger. They literally gamified the concept of learning, infecting our brains with progress bars forever.
