Acids donate protons while bases eagerly accept them

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

The entire scale of corrosive liquids boils down to a microscopic game of hot potato with subatomic particles. An acidic compound is highly unstable and actively attempts to hurl positively charged protons at whatever it touches. A strong alkaline base, conversely, is desperate to absorb those exact protons. Mix them together, and they neutralize violently in a chaotic rush to balance their charges.
