A closer look

R2-D2 originally spoke fully intelligible English dialogue in the rough drafts of the first Star Wars script, and he spent the vast majority of his time ruthlessly insulting C-3PO. George Lucas eventually realized the harsh dialogue ruined the cute aesthetic of the little astromech droid, so he replaced all the aggressively mean insults with random series of adorable beeps and boops. This effectively means that every single time R2-D2 makes a cute little noise in the legendary space opera, he is actually just aggressively cursing out his golden robotic companion with relentless foul language. It transforms a beloved childhood sidekick into a violently toxic trash-talker, proving that even in a galaxy far, far away, everyone absolutely hates their annoying coworkers!
