Recycling your enemies is the ultimate flex. In 811 AD, Khan Krum of Bulgaria ambushed the Byzantine army and killed Emperor Nikephoros I. Rather than bury him, Krum had the emperor's head cut off, hollowed out the skull, and lined it with silver. He proudly used it as a drinking goblet at royal banquets to toast to his own military genius.
