A closer look

International diplomacy has never been pettier. The Aroostook War was a bloodless border confrontation between the US and British North America over the border of Maine. Tensions were high, but actual combat never happened. Instead, local lumberjacks and militias just stood around staring at each other. The conflict is jokingly called the 'Pork and Beans War' because the American troops were largely sustained by massive rations of exactly that.
