Genghis Khan originally tried to establish a peaceful trade route with the Khwarezmid Empire, but the local governor made the fatal error of executing the Mongol ambassadors. In response, Genghis Khan abandoned his ongoing war in China, marched hundreds of thousands of troops across the continent, and essentially deleted the entire empire from the face of the Earth. He even diverted a river through the birthplace of the sultan just to erase it from existence.
