The great American origin story is essentially just a giant, desperate booze run. The Pilgrims originally intended to sail much further south to Virginia. However, water on ships spoiled quickly, so everyone, including children, drank weak beer to stay hydrated. When their beer kegs ran dangerously low, they panicked, anchored at Plymouth Rock, and built a colony solely to start brewing more alcohol immediately.
