Building a sturdy bridge out of steel is an achievement, but suspending a heavily trafficked walkway over a deadly gorge using literally nothing but woven weeds is legendary. Incan communities worked together to harvest and braid local grass into massive suspension cables capable of holding dozens of travelers. The bridges required constant manual rebuilding every single year, proving that routine infrastructure maintenance used to be a terrifying community bonding exercise.
