Greek tragedies allowed a maximum of three speaking actors

Ancient Greek theater was essentially the ultimate test of multi-tasking. Strict theatrical rules dictated that a play could feature an unlimited chorus, but strictly only three speaking actors on stage. These three poor guys had to play every single role in the story, constantly running backstage to change their massive wooden masks between lines.
