Discovering an entire planet wasn't enough to appease Urbain Le Verrier's ego. After pinpointing Neptune using nothing but math and sheer arrogance, he got annoyed that a sudden storm wrecked the French fleet in 1854. His solution was to establish the first modern meteorological network, bullying astronomers into sending weather updates via telegraphs and pneumatic tubes just so he'd never be surprised by rain again.
