The consistency principle is human stubbornness masquerading as integrity. Once an individual publicly commits to an extremely minor stance, their identity fuses with that decision. They will stubbornly defend and escalate that stance into total absurdity purely to avoid looking like a hypocrite to a society that isn't even watching.
