Herschel found infrared light using a glass prism

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

William Herschel was just trying to measure the varying temperatures of different colored light rays using completely standard thermometers. He noticed the highest heat was actually sitting just outside the red part of the visible spectrum. He inadvertently discovered that invisible light exists, proving our eyeballs are terribly inefficient.
