Audiophiles love to boast about using pure gold tips on their incredibly expensive optical audio cords. The hilarious part is that optical cables transmit sound using literal pulses of light inside a plastic tube. Plating the outside connector in precious metal does absolutely nothing to improve a beam of light, making it pure decorative vanity.
